South Coast Taipans have an opportunity to salvage their season when they take on Dural Warriors in the Futsal Cup semi-finals on Tuesday night at Valentine Sports Park.

The Warriors are battling for the FPL1 title while the Taipans sit at the foot of the FPL2 after one win from nine starts.

South Coast’s League form has been in contrast to their stellar Cup run where they knocked out Mountain Majik and Inner West Magic who, at the time, both occupied top three positions in the top flight.

Taipans coach Bobby Mazevski realises the enormity of the match but he believes he side will be keen to pull off another upset.

“It’s a mammoth task. It could be a defining moment for our season,” Mazevski said.

“Our boys seem to play better against higher quality teams and I am hoping that will be the case on Tuesday night.

“There’s a buzz of excitement amongst the club and the team, to make the final would be a huge achievement.”

South Coast go into the match on the back of a nine-day layoff after a 5–3 defeat to Canberra-based Boomerangs F.S.

“[The break] is beneficial for us because we have had several of our key players with niggling injuries,” Mazevski said.

“The break has allowed them to heal, rest and treat these injuries and hopefully I can select from a full squad.”

Dural beat South Coast 4–1 in both encounters in last season’s FPL1 with the Taipans only win over their semi-final opponents coming in October 2016.

“There’s a lot more riding on it for Dural,” Mazevski said.

“They are a club that wants to win trophies but we are going to be pretty desperate to [cause an upset].”

The other semi-final sees second division Sydney City Eagles take on Campbelltown City Quake.
