Tilt set to stay with the Foxes after a strong first season at Ray Robinson Field.

Fernhill will retain the services of head coach Bruce Tilt for 2019 after he guided the Foxes well clear of relegation in his first season at the newly-promoted club.

A spokesperson for the club said, “Throughout the season Bruce has proven that he is a coach that thinks outside the box. Overall, he has exceeded the club’s expectations of survival for this season.”

Tilt took over Fernhill last summer as they were preparing for their first season in the top flight since 2014. Many considered Fernhill favourites for relegation after an off-season player exodus as well as a string of poor preseason results.

In contrast to this, Fernhill have had a relatively remarkable season and after 19 rounds they sit in seventh — six points closer to the top five than the bottom of the table.

Tilt believes he and the club have struck up a strong partnership which has led to positive results on the park and with this in mind, he saw no reason to leave Ray Robinson Field.

“I am delighted to stay on for next season. [Fernhill] is a hard-working club with a number of hard-working people and I saw no reason not to stay and build on what we have already done,” Tilt said.

Now he has committed his future to Fernhill, Tilt is confident a number of key players will follow suit in putting pen to paper in preparation for 2019.

Given the relative success of Fernhill this season, the question will now be whether the club can do something they haven’t done since 2009 — make the finals.

“What I will say is we try and win every game we are in, that includes next year and the final three rounds of this year. I’m confident in what we are doing,” he said.

Fernhill end the season with trips to Port Kembla and Corrimal before hosting Picton on the final day of the season with the side a realistic chance of finishing in sixth.
